Ducati ST4s ABS 2003 for renovation

Eastbourne

£996

Australian Ducati ST4s ABS, 2003 model, in need of renovation, one owner

£996

I bought this Ducati, brand new, in December 2002 and covered 40,000 miles of South-East Australia, the best motorcycling roads on the planet, over the next ten years.  Many times Philip Island beckoned and the ST4s was the perfect bike for the 2,000 mile round trip from Sydney.

Then in 2013 we moved to the UK, the Ducati in tow, and proceeded to travel in retirement throughout Europe by motorhome while the bike, sadly, languished in storage.

Now it is ready for a full, and relatively easy, restoration by a Ducati enthusiast who appreciates that the bike is “a comfortable 996” replete with the marginally modified 4 valve engine (117 bhp) and the Brembo brakes and fully adjustable suspension of its famous cousin.

The only modifications are a comfortable Corbin saddle for two up touring, twin improved headlights, Staintune exhausts, Scottoiler and communication system.  The original items are still with the bike.  Naturally it has pristine panniers and top box with a tank bag in good condition.  The pannier and top box racks are easily removed for track day exploits at which it excels.

Now, having settled in East Sussex and only just on the right side of 80 years old with a recent mild stroke I have been persuaded to give up any thoughts of doing the restoration myself.  Instead it’s been recommended that I pass on responsibility for restoring this fine example of Ducati’s sports tourers (with the emphasis on “sports”) to someone younger with the appropriate skills and love of the brand.

Should you with to refresh your memory of this superlative motorcycle this article is very good.  It concludes:

Ducati  have  done  the  impossible  with  the  ST4S.  They’ve  taken  the basics of one of the best sportsbikes in the world and moulded it into a genuine sports tourer. There are some compromises but they work well. This bike really couldn't be happier playing both roles and will provide any owner with many thousands of miles of riding pleasure, regardless of the use it gets put it to. And not only that but it looks fantastic too, Ducati didn’t forget stylingwhen they put the ST4 together, it's yet another Italian bike that definitely turns heads. The ST4, like the long line of World Superbike racers it is derived from, is a real winner.
